Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy by Jane O’Connor
Book Synopsis: A girl who believes that fancy is better tries to convince her family to adopt a dog.
Instructional Focus: (Numbers are for the Virginia Standards of Learning, generally Reading/English)
Synonyms: (2.2D, 2.7C, 3.4B, 4.4B, 5.4C)
Creating the Costume: If it is girl and “fancy” it ends up being part of my Fancy Nancy costume. The only thing I actually purchased for this was a feather boa. The only difficult part of this costume was trying to make my hair curly like Nancy’s. My hair just does not ever want to keep any curl no matter what I try.
Delivery: I love to read Fancy Nancy, just like with Olivia and Eloise, the character has got some great voice. Working on synonyms is always an option with Fancy Nancy. We also followed Nancy’s lead with this book and tried to persuade somebody of something by writing a persuasive essay.
